How To Remove Scratches From Perspex® Cast Acrylic
Has your Perspex® cast acrylic sheeting collected a few unsightly scratches over the years? Are you wanting to get rid of it due to its worn appearance?
Before you think of throwing it away, you may want to take a look at the recommended method to remove scratches from Perspex® cast acrylic below.
With a bit of patience and some elbow grease, you can make your Perspex ® cast acrylic sheet look as good as new!
You Will Need:
• 800 grit wet and dry sand paper
• 1200 grit wet and dry sand paper
• Metal polish (such as Brasso)
• A clean cloth
• A clean rag (for the rubbing compound and metal polish)
• Rubbing compound (used for cars)
Clean the affected area of Perspex® cast acrylic with a wet cloth.
Wet the abrasive side of the 800 grit sand paper and rub the scratches with this using small circular motions. Continue doing this until the scratches are barely visible.
Repeat this procedure with the 1200 grit sand paper and rub the affected area until the scratches are no longer visible.
Once all the scratches have been removed, wipe the surface with a clean, soft cloth.
You will notice that the sanded area appears duller than the surrounding surface. Apply rubbing compound with a clean rag, and polish the sheet using small circular motions, to restore its shine.
Now apply the metal polish in the same way until the gloss finish is restored.
Note: the above method is recommended for light scratches only.
